The Route

There are sixteen historical cannons to link up in order. If riding the route, you'll need to choose your bike carefully as there is a mixture of terrain, including road, cobbles, gravel and even some single-track. The majority of the route is paved, but just as it starts getting tough towards the end of the route, you'll hit the gravel (and some single-track) and start to make your way on the trails around the mountain before dropping back down to your starting point at East City Cycles.

    • Road, cobbles

A steep climb up through Bokaap will take you towards the Noon Gun. Unless you’ve timed it well, the gate will most likely be locked. The Noon gun has been a historic time signal in Cape Town, South Africa, since 1806. It consists of a pair of black powder Dutch naval guns, fired alternatingly with one serving as a backup.

They will be on your right (sea side) and you’ll have to take care crossing the road. As you come down the road off Signal towards the Glen, it’s best to cross straight away and to roll down the pavement on the right-hand side.
